Former president of the Turkish National Allergy and Clinical Immunology Association (A\u0130D) and Hacettepe University Faculty of Medicine, Department of Pediatric Allergy and Asthma, Prof. Dr. B\u00fclent Enis \u015eekerel gave information about allergies that are common in childhood. \u015eekerel stated that food allergy is seen in one in every 15 children in the first years of life and said: \u201cAllergic body shows its first symptoms in the first year of life. Therefore, to protect babies from food allergies, complementary foods should be started without delay,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

What Does Allergic Body Mean?<\/b><\/p>\n
Stating that allergies manifest themselves in infancy, \u015eekerel said that the increase in allergies is associated with changing living conditions. He stated that caesarean births, insufficient use of breast milk, overly hygienic lifestyle, excessive use of antibiotics, industrialization, preference for a Western-style lifestyle and delaying the transition to complementary foods in babies contribute to the increase in allergies. \u015eekerel emphasized that returning to natural life is important to reduce allergies. Stating that the treatment of allergies is aimed at relieving the symptoms that occur when faced with the allergen, \u015eekerel said, "Therefore, the first step in protecting against allergic diseases is to avoid the allergen."
