Nilüfer Municipality was deemed worthy of the 'Publishing Special Award' organized by the Turkish Publishers Association for its libraries and writing house services. Mayor Turgay Erdem received the award given for the contribution of writing houses and library services to the reading culture in the city.
Nilüfer Municipality's librarianship and writing house services were rewarded by the Turkish Publishers Association. Nilüfer Municipality Library Directorate's efforts to develop the reading culture in the city and its writing houses service, which is an exemplary practice, were deemed worthy of the Publishing Special Award.
Kenan Kocatürk, President of the Turkish Publishers Association, announced the award, which was presented at the 40th Istanbul Book Fair Honor Night organized jointly by Tüyap Tüm Fuarcılık Yapım A.Ş. and the Turkish Publishers Association.
The ceremony, held at Tüyap Palas Ballroom, started with the opening speeches of TÜYAP Chairman of the Board of Directors Bülent Ünal and Chairman of the Advisory Board Doğan Hızlan. Stating that Nilüfer Municipality has made a great contribution to the library and publishing sector with its work at the award ceremony, Turkish Publishers Association President Kenan Kocatürk said that Nilüfer is an example for Turkey with these works.
Nilüfer Mayor Turgay Erdem, who attended the ceremony with his wife Zeynep Terzioğlu Erdem, stated that Nilüfer Municipality has brought a total of 6 libraries to the city and said, “We carry out many activities that bring all segments of the society, but especially children and women, together with books and make them love reading. By dedicating each year to an author, we bring his works and literary understanding to the readers throughout the year. With this project alone, we reached more than 150 thousand people and distributed more than 110 thousand books in 10 years. We also organize other events that bring people of all ages together with books. We broke new ground in Turkey and opened Yazıevleri. Our writing houses located in Misi and Gölyazı provide services at an international level and host many writers. It is a source of inspiration for many literary works. "We were very happy to see that all our efforts were appreciated," he said.
After the speeches, Nilüfer Mayor Turgay Erdem received the award from International Publishers Association President Karine Pansa.
Honorary Award went to Prof. at the night where Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality, Van Governorship and Ksidas Bookstore were also awarded. Dr. Nermin Abadan was given to Unat.
