Founded by Elif Özbay Şahan and Kurtuluş Şahan in 2018, HANTERRA, one of Turkey's most prestigious functional ceramic competitions, "HANTERRA CERAMIC COMPETITION", starts its third year with the theme "VASE".
This juried national competition is a platform that aims to contribute to the development of ceramic art. HANTERRA Ceramics Competition aims to reward creative designs, technical mastery and artists' efforts.
This competition, which is organized to introduce ceramic art to a wider audience and to embrace everyone who is passionate about ceramics, is sponsored by Sibelco, Colorobbia Art, Valentine Clays, Mars Hobby and Studio Ovens and Ceramila. The competition jury includes important names such as Turkish Ceramic Artists Tuba Önder Demircioğlu, Ezgi Hakan, Interior Architect Ayhan Geveli, Ceramic Artist Anna Thomson from England and curator Domenica Laracà from Italy.
Elif Özbay Şahan and Kurtuluş Şahan, the founders of HANTERRA Ceramics Competition, emphasize that ceramic art has received increasing attention in recent years and that people need a slower and tactile production style against the speed of the digital world. They also state that interest in handmade ceramic products increases with events such as exhibitions, competitions, festivals and ceramic markets.
HANTERRA Ceramics Competition aims to contribute to greater recognition of original design and quality production in Turkey. It also highlights how labor-intensive a production process handmade ceramics is and the uniqueness of each product. The competition winner will be rewarded with a grand achievement award and a HANTERRA gift certificate worth 25,000 TL. Additionally, three honorable mentions will receive HANTERRA gift certificates worth 6,000 TL.
